This is my first time reading anything from Carey Baldwin and I must say, what a rollercoaster ride it was!! This book was GREAT. Kept me on the edge of my seat from the first chapter. The characters were wonderful and the storyline had so many twists and turns,It made me dizzy just from reading. Anyone who likes a good romantic suspense novel, this book is most definitely for you.

Loved this book. The author is a physician and boy you could tell through out this book. The first three chapters blew me away both with the introduction of the hero and heroine and with the detailed explanations of medical procedures that had to be performed. Don’t say this often but I also fell in love with the hero from his first words in the book.

Dr. Skylar Novak goes through life determining the threat level and quickest escape route of every place she goes due to seeing her father killed and being both physically and almost sexually assaulted by the person that killed her father when she was a younger. She thinks she is finally happy in her life now that she has her clinic, her brother and her fiance. As she is waiting for her favorite diner to open where she is meeting her brother and fiance she runs into detective Daniel Benson who is quite the flirt and if she wasn’t already engaged she would be charmed by. But everything changes in the blink of an eye. A robber comes in and destroys her happiness again by killing her fiance and shooting Daniel who was trying to defuse the hostage situation.

Skylar’s brother Garth is the creator of a vaccination that cures a specific form of breast cancer. The same form that killed there mother and also the type that Skylar has test positive for. Skylar supports her brothers research and longs for the drug to be approved by the FDA so it can finally be made available to the many women that need it. She refuses to take a dose for herself until its on the market and readily available to everyone.

Three months after the shooting Daniel is still on leave due to his shoulder not being back to 100%. Daniel is the single father to a teenage girl who is going through so major issues due to her father’s job and her mother’s suicide when she was little. He is also having a hard time letting go of this feeling that the robbery was not all it seemed like it was. He decides he needs to ask Skylar more questions about her Fiance’s death.

This starts the balling rolling on more twist and turns than you could imagine. You just sit back and hang on for the ride through every shock that comes at you. The book just flowed from beginning to end and I couldn’t wait to see what the author was going to throw at us next.

Cindy’s review
Brooke Richards has come to Florida to visit her best friend and to visit a very famous Dr about getting a new prosthesis. The book start out with her friend and her husband going out on a boat and it exploding shortly after with Brooke still on the pier watching in horror. Brooke is no stranger to tragedy as her and her parents were in an earthquake in Egypt 2 years ago where her parents lost there lives trying to save her and she lost her leg. They manage to find both of her friends in the water and miraculously they are still alive.

Garrett Ciavello is a detective with the Beach Police Department. His niece had been missing for two months and with a previous report from Brooke and her friends that they had found a box on the bottom of the ocean floor with red hair floating out of it his gut is telling him its his niece.

It becomes clear that the attempt on her friends lives has something to do with the box they had found but its as yet to be recovered from the ocean. When she realizes this she joins forces with Garrett and his friend Diego to try and find it to see if it does contain his niece and to figure out who did it. But this puts her on the radar of the killer and attempts are made on her life. Garrett who has a strong sense of being the protector vows that nothing will happen to Brooke and keeps her close. Brooke whose last involvement with a man didnt end well is hesitant to start a relationship with Garrett for that reason and also her embarrassment over her missing leg. Very touching initial sex scene when she decides to let go of her fears and give into her desires.

I figured out early on who the bad guy was but his true reason for what he was doing was still a surprise at the end.

This was a good suspense story with some interesting underwater scenes. Looking forward to what’s next from this author.

Rio Rio Rio… I really like Rio 🙂

Rio is the team leader of one of the groups that work for the Kelly’s. We’ve seen him in past books be the tough as nails leader of his group that was always at odds with the other team leader Steele that also works for the Kelly. At the end of Whispers in the Dark we saw him have a reaction to seeing Shea’s sister Grace on a video tape and vow to go and get her bring her back to Shea.

Grace has just escaped from a group of men that had been making her use her abilities over and over until she was to the point of wanting to just give up and die. Rio and his team manage to find her after she falls off a cliff trying to escape the bad guys that had found her again.

As Grace is in a very weakened state Rio decides he needs to get her to his secret home in Balize where she can rest and heal herself and he can decide what he is going to do now that he knows Titan is after Grace. Titan is a highly classified military black ops group that doesn’t “exist”. There success rate is 100% and Rio knows this because he used to be one of them.

While on the island Grace and Rio become very close. I really liked watching these two open up to each other both showing there vulnerable sides and in turn falling in love with each other. As Grace had been on the run most of her life and knew she was different she didn’t have any experience in the sex department. There is a scene that is both amusing and sexy on where Rio teaches Grace the art of giving a BJ 🙂

Once they leave the island the action picks back up and Grace is taken again but this time she refuses to be a victim and stands up to her abductors.

I have to say I really liked this book better than Nathan’s and Shea’s book. The next book is Cole and PJ’s. I have been waiting for their book since we first met them so long ago in the first KGI book.

Arresting Desire – Shayla Black Two years ago FBI Agent Jon Bocelli was working undercover within the DiStefano mob family. He had been very attracted to the youngest daughter but in the end thought she was to young and innocent and walked away. Now he is back because his brother is in jail for killing a judge and he needs Lucia DiStefano to get evidence he didnt do it. He also decides to finally give in and take Lucia and I have to say when he went all caveman it was damn sexy…

On Fire – Sylvia Day There has been 3 cases of arson in the small seaside town of Lion’s Bay and fire inspector Darcy Michaels thinks they need to bring the Feds in. Darcy came back to Lion’s Bay when her twin sister was brutally murdered. All three of these fires were to businesses that she and her sister had frequented as children. She know there is a connection there but cant quite figure it out. When Deputy Marshal Jared Cameron arrives in town to investigates the series of arson attacks the instant attraction between her and Jared is so freggin hot. These two burn it up and down and then back up again – WHEW they were smoking together. During the investigation alot of secrets come out about Darcy’s sister that both shock and hurt her. This was the best of the three in my opinion.

The Unwilling – Shiloh Walker Colby Mathis is a powerful psychic. He was once with the FBI and fell hard for another psychic he went through training with but she was freaked out about her gift and left him 15 years ago. After a bad judgement call that almost got another fellow agent and a child killed Colby walked away from the FBI. He now works for his father in a bookstore and sits on the beach and drinks. The woman that walked away 15 years ago is now a police lieutenant. Mica Greer has just found her third mutilated body. The gift that she doesn’t want is telling her this wont be the last. Mica’s captain decides they need help and calls the FBI. Colby and Mica’s old boss doesn’t have anyone to spare at the moment but recommends they seek out Colby to help them much to Mica’s dismay. Neither Colby nor Mica really want to work together – Colby because he is still in love with Mica and Mica because Colby makes her face her gift but when Colby realizes that Mica is the next victim he will do anything to save the woman he loves.

Harlequin books have come along way. This book had so much action and suspense and angst.

Amanda Hawthorne after work comes to her brother Vince’s home where her and her 5 year old son have been living to find her brother murdered and her son hiding and traumatized after witnessing his uncle being killed. Before he died he told his nephew Ethan to tell him mom to go to Blake Redmond. But before she get away she is shot by the person that killed her brother.

Blake Redmond used to be Vince’s best friend and they both served on the Austin police force. That was before Vince set him up to take a fall and his ex-wife and son were killed. He is now a sheriff in a small Texas town.

Amanda manages to make it Blake’s before passing out from the gunshot wound. Blake doesnt quite know what to make of her showing up with her son but once he realizes they are both in danger he protective instincts kick in and he vows another child will not be killed on his watch.

The people after Amanda and Ethan are ruthless. This forces the three of them on the run but they just cant seem to get away.

Amanda and Blake had been attracted to each other in the past but due to the death of his son and being framed by her brother Blake left.

The attraction between these two is still very strong and with Blake constantly going all alpha on her its not long before she cant resist him.

As the story progresses we find out things with Vince were not as Blake had thought but the ones responsible for everything are dirty cops that will do anything to make sure they are not found out.

There were some secondary characters that I hope will get there own books in the future.

The books starts out in the middle of a hurricane off the coast in Florida. Blair Davenport is at her Grandmothers house to board it up and get some of her personal documents. Out of no where Michael Alvarez appears and looks to be injured. Blair hasn’t seen him in six years since she turned down his marriage proposal and harsh words were said.

Michael is a FBI agent who’s last undercover assignment had him accused of embezzlement and someone trying to kill him twice. He doesn’t know if he can trust Blair’s brother who is also an FBI agent so he decides he come and hide out at Blair’s grandmother’s house during a hurricane thinking no one would look for him there. But that isnt the case.

From here things take off and Michael and Blair are on the run for the rest of the book. We get to find out about their relationship via flashbacks from the beginning to where it all went wrong at the end. But one thing is clear through out the book these two still love each other but can they get over past hangups, survive whoever is trying to kill them and live a HEA.

This was my first time reading this author and I really liked her writing style. I look forward to more from this author in the future.

Damned to be a creature of the night. Disillusioned by the promise of love which can never be his. Betrayed by his own and the woman he loves.

Joaquin never intended to fall in love, especially not with a mortal. A human could never understand his kind, the torture of his daily existence, but his heart doesn’t follow his head. And he finds love in the arms of a woman who knows nothing about his true existence.

After just three short months, Arian believes she’s has found the man she would risk everything for. Then she learns the truth. A dark, twisted truth that becomes the catalyst for a life-changing decision when she believes a sorceress’s lies.

Once together, Joaquin and Ariana now find themselves on the opposite ends of the battlefield. Vampire versus hunter. Each destined to kill the other. Neither able to forget the magical nights, the feel of skin on skin, or the sounds of whispers in the dark.

In a world of betrayal and lies, love is crushed, but Joaquin isn’t ready to give up. And when he discovers the true nature of Ariana’s change, he has to save her before she realizes what she has become.

While this is Book 3 in the Vampire Destined Series, It is a stand alone. You dont need to read the first to books. Yet, once again Rachel has written a story that is so different from the first two books. The story begins with Joaquin and Ariana being in love, then comes the betrayal. This where the meat of the story is. This story really held my interest from the moment I started turning the pages. I was left with only one question…will Devlin get his own Book next?  ~Janet~
