What do you get when you mix the Hippie Chick and a Businessman?? A beautiful love story.
Rielle Wetzler has always felt like an outsider her whole life since she was raised by hippie parents that lived there life the way they wanted to regardless of society. When she becames a young single mother on top of that she had to learn to not worry about what others thought of her and just try her best to provide for her and her daughter Rory. She does this by growing and selling fruits and vegetables and special bread. She tried her hand at running a B&B but ended up having to sell her land and home to Gavin Daniels when she got into financial trouble. For two years nothing changed. She continued to live on her land and in her house without any interference from Gavin even though he owned everything.
After Gavin’s daughter Sierra gets in trouble with the law he decides he is moving from Arizona to Wyoming. Hoping that being around his family will help with a very strong willed 16 year old girl. What he didnt count on was suddenly being attracted to Rielle who he has agreed can to continue living in the house. He seems to have made piece with his father but still has some resentments toward his mother they are both trying to work on.
Gavin and Rielle weren’t the typical McKay couple we’ve read in past books. Neither of them were very experienced in the sex department. Both had thrown themselves into being single parents and providing for their kids that relationships just weren’t top priority. But that also ended up causing some friction between the kids and the parents.
Another difference in this book was having the POV’s of both daughters. We really get a lot of Sierra’s POV which I enjoyed. She is immediately taken with Boone West who is a 19 year old senior. She never acts on it but they become very good friends. There were also many great conversations between Sierra and Rory and those were the ones that had me tearing up the most in the book.
Gavin got to know and spend more time with his brothers and I particularly liked went he went to Ben – the Dom – for sex advice 🙂
This was a very touching love story between two people in there 40’s that had to work their relationship around being parents. It was also touching seeing Gavin try to work out his feelings toward his mother.
This book also started a few new story arc’s and really just gave us enough to have us scratching our heads about Dalton – who’s book is next.
Cant wait for 2013 and more RR books!!
Ignoring his instincts once cost Simon a vital op-and the life of his best friend, Ryan. Now as escalating, violent attacks hit A-Tac, another person he loves is in danger. But in the last desperate minutes before disaster strikes, their second chance at love might be the most lethal trap of all
Cindy’s Review Book 6 in the A-Tac series which are CIA operatives that all work undercover at Sunderland College.
The one thing that never lacks in a A-Tac book is non stop action, along with that pesky group the Consortium (an arms cartel they have been trying to bring down throughout the series).
This is Simon’s story. Simon was a Navy Seal before joining A-Tac. His last mission with the Seals went south and his best friend Ryan was killed and he was wounded. He feels a sense of guilt over Ryan’s death and has been unable to face his widow Jillian Montgomery who he was also best frieds with in college and had a thing for but stepped back because he thought Jillian picked Ryan.
One day after a meeting with his Dr he runs into Jillian at the hospital right before a helicopter crashes into the building. Turns out Jillian is working for Homeland Security now and is assigned to work with A-Tac and partnered with Simon when they figure out the crash was no accident. Jillian has always harbored a secret from Simon – well actually two and one is pretty big.
There are many more explosions as they try and following the treads which all keep pointing to the Consortium as being behind. Most of the team is in this book and it was great seeing them again and hearing how they are doing in there relationships. And as a added bonus the next book will finally be Avery’s. There is a sneak peak and boy does it look like its going to be a doozy..
Cindy’s Review – Very humorous journey of two people who couldn’t be more different.
Caroline Reynolds just moved into her apartment. She’s happy with her new place and her job but depressed over losing her O. Yes her O has deserted her and doesnt seem to be going to return anytime soon. This fact is not helped by the neighbor next door who’s wild sex antics involve lots of banging on the wall. But… Caroline and her two best friend from college go to Caroline’s bosses house warming party and who is there but none other than Wallbanger. The sparks fly and not the good kind at first. After a truce is made the two embark on a friendship.
There were so many laugh out loud moments in this book. The author takes us on a enemies to friends to lovers tale that ends with multiple O’s.
When we last saw Mia, her first love Carlos had set her free because it was the right thing to do. Mia went on to college in New York. She is now 22 and working on her graduate degree. She learned to adapt to New York living and is on her way to meet the man she has been dating for six months.
You can tell right away that Nick and Mia really like each other. They first bonded over something they both had in common, they both were given up when they were born. If you’ve read this series you already know that Mia was adopted by a loving family and then later she found her birth parents and has become a big part of there lives and family. Nick wasnt as fortunate. He drifted through the foster system his whole life and it has left him fearful of families and deep relationships.
When Mia ask him to accompany her to Lucky Harbor for Christmas and her Aunt Chloe’s wedding he panics and leaves her standing there broken hearted.
Chloe goes on to Lucky Harbor determined to mark Nick in the lesson learned category.
Nick realizes right away he made a big mistake and takes off to Lucky Harbor to get Mia back.
Nick has to not only convince Mia his is serious but he also has to convince Maddie and Jax, Tara and Ford and Chloe and Sawyer oh and also Carlos.
It was nice to get to spend Christmas in Lucky Harbor along with Chloe and Sawyer wedding. Very touching book.
The connection between the two damaged souls is instant and electrifying, shredding the defenses Astrid had worked so carefully to erect, and tumbling her into a world of passion and vulnerability she can’t control. Intense, soul-shattering passion explodes between the pair, threatening everything that they hold most dear. Is there a way to stop the fire before it consumes them, or are they fated to a future more beautiful and more heart-wrenching than either thought was possible?
This delicious tale takes readers on an emotional ride, from the very first pages till the very end.
“Fairytale Not Required is a story about a beautiful woman, who has had a hard life, who struggles quietly on her own, not wanting to be a burden on anyone. Not even the people closes to her know her internal struggles or even her past.
It’s the story about a handsome young man with a small child, who has his own set of issues that he is trying to run away from. This lands him in the far away, quaint country town of Birch Crossing.
Our Hero, Jason is the newest resident, having moved there with his young son, looking for a fresh start in life. The first person he meets is Astrid, who immediately catches Jason’s interest. Astrid is also taken back by Jason, yet neither able to admit the attraction.
Stephanie Rowe has once again created a strong, self-determining and complex female Heroine. One most women can totally relate to as we journey with Astrid through her insecurities and self-doubt that battles with her fierce independent nature.

Will Astrid and Jason get their Happy Ever After…of course they will, this is a fairytale after all..
(This is not a paranormal book as my review may seem, it is a straight up contemporary romance. But for me that accurately describes what Astrid and Jason have to go through to finally get there HEA)
J.C. (Carson) Morris is proud to serve his hometown of Haleswood as a sheriff’s deputy. When he’s asked to take on additional responsibility serving as a bodyguard to the gorgeous newcomer Eva Battaglia, it’s no hardship.
When the madman toying with Eva drives them into seclusion, how will they resolve the case and come to terms with their inescapable attraction?
Eva Battaglia was an analyst with the Special Forces team that included her current boss Ross and best friend Bart. On their last mission things didn’t go according to plan and the hostage they were trying to save died. Now years later it seems the man responsible for the kidnapping and botched mission is after Eva for something he thinks she knows. With Eva still recovering from a gunshot wound Ross asked to have Deputy Carson Morris assigned as her body guard but without her knowledge. Things go fine until Bart shows up and get shot taking a bullet meant for her.
Eva is now made aware of what is going on and begrudgingly agrees to go into hiding with Carson and try and figure out what it is Bakr Morcos really wants from her.
I love reading strong female characters and Eva can defiantly take care of herself but is still a woman at heart that suffers from nightmares from the botched mission and with her growing attraction to Deputy Carson who isn’t her typical type of man. Carson isn’t the normal rough and tough Alpha male we read a lot in books. He good at his job but he keeps his cool and doesn’t lose his composure and loves his momma and his sisters :). He and Eva together balance each other out and made a great pair.
This was a fast paced book that had equal parts of suspense and romance. I have come to love all of Mr Marks books and look forward to his next.
Just finished The Hostage and I couldn’t be more pleased! Since read the first book, The Thief, where we were introduced to Eve Battaglia and Carson Morris, I have been looking forward to reading her story. While the first 2 books have a parallel time line, The Hostage takes place after that time and therefore can be read as a stand-alone. But why not read the first two books? They were outstanding.
Eva is an ex-special forces analyst, who is a computer genius, working with former members of her old team at RC Investigations. When it comes to tracking down information, Eva is your gal. She lives for the challenge. While recouping from an injury, she discovers that a mistake from her past military service has come came to destroyer her and those she cares about.
Let me tell you, Eva is one tough cookie and if I liked her in the past 2 books, I fell in love with her in this book. She is self-confident, smart, witty and faces her fears head on. I want to be like her when I grow up!
Carson Morris is the sheriff’s deputy assigned to protect Eva. Of course, Eva doesn’t feel she needs a bodyguard till someone close to her is shot. This is where their adventure begins along with their attraction to each other. It was refreshing to see that Eva and Carson both knew what they wanted and went for it, without a bunch of angst and denial. There were some really sweet and tender moments between these two people as they were trying to keep Eva safe.
True to form, V.R. Marks, filled this story with his trade mark roller coaster riding suspense. And I enjoy every minute of the ride.
Now to my only complaint, a personal note to Mr. Marks, when do we get to read Bart’s story? *smiling*
First up is Holiday Haven by Vicki Lewis Thompson. Tansy Dexter is the director of the shelter and very passionate about her job. While doing the annual Christmas promotion of the shelter at the local tv station she catches the eye of Ben Rhodes who is the cameraman. Ben thinks Tansy is attractive but he wants nothing to do with adopting or caring for any animals which since that’s Tansy’s life neither think it’s worth acting on their attraction. Ben ends up volunteering a lot of his time at the shelter talking pictures of all the animals that need homes and one of their cats who doesn’t like anyone becomes very attached to Ben. Tansy see’s this and pushes Ben to adopt him which Ben keeps rejecting. Ben has some scars from his childhood that is preventing him from ever wanting another animal. These two finally give into their feelings for each other but Tansy sees this as another opportunity to push the cat onto Ben with causes Ben to walk out. This was a very cute story. All through all 3 stories a lot of the animals come close to stealing the spotlight.
The second story is Home for Christmas by Catherine Mann who we all know is as about as passionate about animals as the women in these stories are. This story was about Shelby Conrad, a volunteer at the shelter. Her husband, an Army Tech Sergeant, is deployed more than he is home and after years of failed attempts to have a child and him closing himself off from her even more she has decided they should divorce. But before they do that she is going to make him come with him to deliver three dogs to their adoptive families in hopes they can talk and at least end their marriage on a good note. The problem is they both still love each other very much but just don’t know how to get past all the barriers that they have placed between them. Alex Conrad grew up with a mother who stayed in her room in a depression his whole childhood and a father who stayed at work to avoid coming home to her. Due to this he keeps everything locked tight inside which took its toll on his marriage. All he has ever wanted was to love and provide for Shelby but he realizes he went about it the wrong way. It isn’t until they go to her father’s on Christmas day and he has a heart to heart with him that he starts to realize he needs to fight for his marriage. (Side note the father is Zach Dawson who was the hero in Under Siege of the Wingman Warrior series) This was a great second chance story.
In the last story of the book – A Puppy for Will by Kathie DeNosky we have Will whose grandmother Rose works at the Shelter. She has decided since he is getting two weeks off from work that he can foster one of the dogs over the holidays. Because she raised him he just can’t tell her no. Macie lives in the same boathouse community that he lives and has decided since she can’t go home for the holidays she is going to throw a Christmas party. These two are attracted to each other but he came from a marriage that ended badly and she was left broken hearted when her fiancé left her for another woman and both are leery about relationships. There were quite a few funny moments in this one.
Overall I liked all three stories. Each one has you right at that edge of having misty eyes while reading.
Carlin Reed lived in Houston and her two dates with a police officer ended up with an obsessed manic. When her cries for help went unanswered from his fellow officers she decided she needed to move and hoped that would deter him. But he followed her and in a case of mistaken identity her friend was killed in her place. She decides is time of go off the grid and ends up in a dying town called Battle Ridge, Wyoming.
She befriends the local diner owner and starts working there to replenish her dwindling cash supply. She tells her the truth about what she is running from and that she needs to be paid under the table.
Zeke Decker’s owns and runs a ranch and just lost his cook, housekeeper and a woman that was as close to a mother when she decides to go live with her daughter. He knows he is in trouble as his men expect 3 good meals a day and he cant cook and is the worst housekeeper. After months of one of his young ranch hands being the cook with disastrous results he finally gives in to his cousin’s request to give Carlin the job.
These two do a dance around each other for quite a while. She has her secret she tries to hide and refuses to get involved with anyone when she knows any time she may have to run again. He’s already had one bad marriage behind him and wasnt looking to get married again but something about Carlin starts to chip away at him.
Most of the book is what I would categorize as a contemporary western romance. The beginning and the end have suspenseful moments that were well written.
As with her earlier series, Promises, we got lots of sexy cowboys and Indians as the hero’s. Their women are of all ages, race, and religions.
Caden’s book is the 6th in the series. I didn’t remember him as much as I did the other characters when it came there time for there book. The story here isnt as suspenseful or really any action at all like the previous books. Its really just the love story between Maddie, a woman that was raised in a brothel and made to perform since she was eight, and Caden. Due to this Maddie tends to wonder off in her mind for periods of time to escape reality. Even when she ends up at the Hell’s Eight compound she still has moments where she isnt all there. Due to living almost her whole life in a brothel and being a whore she struggles with thinking that is all anyone will ever think she is. As she watches the other members of Hell’s Eight getting married she dreams of one day having what they have. While on the compound she became very attached to Caden almost to the point of obsession.
Caden has never forgotten how his family and the town was killed which lead to the eight survivors becoming Hell’s Eight to extract revenge on those responsible. He isnt liking this new Hell’s Eight. Those that have married have become to domesticated for his piece of mind. He makes the decision to leave and to go and try to make fortune. He knows Maddie has become depended on him and he did promise her that he wouldnt leave without saying goodbye, a promise he ended up breaking.
When Maddie decides to take off after Caden she gets herself into a bind which Caden has to rescue her from. Or so he thinks.
This wasn’t the strongest book in the series but its a great series that I will continue reading until the end.
Ever since he saved Dr. Mackenzie Grant’s life, panther shifter and sorcerer Kalen Black has had trouble keeping the beautiful doctor out of his thoughts, and his heart. The brush with death awakened an intense passion between them—one that for the first time had the notorious loner letting down his guard.
With the Alpha Pack battling an evil Fae who is slowly gaining control over Kalen’s mind, Kalen can no longer trust his own actions, and he breaks off his affair with Mackenzie in order to keep her safe. But when Mackenzie learns that she is carrying Kalen’s child, no amount of danger will keep her away from the man she loves. To protect his mate and unborn child, Kalen will have to battle a terrible evil, unleash the full fury of his power, and risk destroying them all
This was a great addition to the Alpha Pack series. We met Kalen in the first book and never knew which side he was going to end up on. His past had planted many evil seeds in his soul. Its been a journey watching him grow with the Team and come to care for them but still feel like an outsider. The one true light in his dark world was always Mackenzie.
There were a lot of surprises in this book about Kaden and his past and where he came from.
This series needs to be read in order to understand what goes on in this book. I look forward to reading many more books in this series.
