CINDY: We’d like to welcome back V.R. Marks to the blog. I’ve been a fan since the first book. The 4th book in the RC Investigations series The Informant is now out and we have an interview and giveaway with V.R.
VR: Thanks so much for having me back, Cindy! I really appreciate your support for this series.
CINDY: For those that haven’t read the series before why don’t you tell give them a brief rundown of what the series is about.
VR: The RC Investigations novels feature a team founded by Ross Carpenter along with Rick Dreyer and Eva Battaglia. All of them worked together with an Army Special Ops team and now (as civilians they specialize in investigative work for clients who prefer to keep things off the public record, as well as bridge the gap for overworked law enforcement departments.
The characters really came to life for me as I wrote The Thief and with each book, it’s fun to see those relationships develop as they protect and assist each other through various challenges.
The Thief is Ross and Allie’s story: An old flame stole sensitive data from a new client… whose side will Ross choose?
Allie Williams is on the run with incriminating evidence proving her company’s new wonder-drug is lethal. In a last ditch effort to save lives, she races to the safety of her hometown, hiding in plain sight among the close knit community where she’ll definitely be innocent until proven guilty.
The Witness stars Rick and Nicole: A witness on the run, an investigator who refuses to give up on her…
The sole witness to murder, Nicole Livingston has been living a shadow of the life she once dreamed of. When her apartment building goes up in flames, she sees a chance to escape her protected identity and reclaim life on her terms. But her plan goes awry when a handsome stranger intervenes, offering assistance she didn’t know she needed.
The Hostage features Eva and Carson: What happens when the hunter becomes the hunted?
Former Special Forces analyst, Eva Battaglia, used to be the hunter. Now, in the quiet town of Haleswood, SC she blends her linguistic and computer skills as the team analyst for RC Investigations. When someone from her Army days decides to exact revenge, she goes from being the hunter to the hunted in a matter of days.
CINDY: I’ve been a fan of Bart (the hero in The Informant) since I first met him. Of course I remember thinking he was going to be paired up with Eva before reading her book Why don’t you tell the readers a little about Bart and his story in The Informant.
VR: Readers first meet Bart (Karl Bartholomew) in The Witness and see him again briefly in The Hostage. He’s one of those characters I’d like to count as a friend (if he was real).
Bart is a big bear of a guy who served on the Special Ops team with Ross, Rick, and Eva. His wife divorced him years ago while he was overseas on assignment. When he was injured, he left the Army and opened the Patriot Plaza truck stop (fictionally located on I-95 in Virginia). His place is known for fantastic coffee (and Rick is determined to get the secret recipe).
With so much traffic going through Bart’s truck stop, he often tips off local law enforcement and the DEA to suspicious activity. He considers it a public service, but when his cook turns up dead one morning, Bart is caught in the middle of a much bigger situation.
Of course, his bad day only gets worse when his friend, DEA agent Hannah Thalberg, lies to her boss about being married to him so she can stay on the case involving a mobile meth lab working up and down the Interstate.
Their adventure was full of surprises for me, primarily Bart’s reactions to being married (even to a fake wife) and how he reconciled what he considers his past mistakes with the potential future with Hannah.
CINDY: Now that we’ve gotten Bart’s story what’s next on the horizon??
VR: Well, the box set collection of The Thief, The Witness, and The Hostage was just released which is a great value for readers who want to catch up on the series.
And The Informant also has the honor of being included in the Dangerous Desires Collection featuring novels by CJ Lyons, Debra Webb, Vicki Hinze, Peggy Webb, and novellas by Regan Black, and Kathy Carmichael. Readers will want to snap that up when it goes on sale July 2nd.
As for the future of RC Investigations? There are several short stories spinning in my head showing the team in action and I’m eager to get those out for readers. The next full-length novel will feature Dale Nichols (Ross’ FBI friend from The Thief). I would tell you more, but Dale’s heroine is a bit shy…
CINDY: Thank you so much for joining us and answering our questions. V.R. is giving away a copy of the box set, a VR Marks coffee mug (last of its kind, with the old cover art) and a sampler of coffee to one lucky winner. Please fill out the rafflecopter and leave a blog post comment.
