My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Even though much tamer than previous books this heartbreaking story that spans over 900 years answers many questions that were left from previous books.

Uilleam (Will) MacRieve was one of those that was captured and tortured by General Webb. In his escape from the island he was almost raped by 3 succubae – we knew this had significance but didn’t know its true meaning until now. At the end of Lothaire we thought we knew Webb’s fate but what really happened is revealed here.

In the grand scheme of the IAD world this didn’t really advance forward much to the future. We learned of what happened to Will as a boy and how that shaped his future and his hatred. His grief has him ready to die even knowing that would leave his twin Munro with no living family.

Chloe Todd is a human with aspiration of going to the Olympics in the sport of soccer. Its all she has ever wanted to do and her father has always supported her dreams. But all of that comes crashing down when her body starts going through sudden changes and her father drops a bomb on her and leaves. Not long after she is kidnapped by the Lore and put up for sale to the highest bidder.

MacRieve rescues her after recognizing her as his mate. Most of the story from here is there story together which has some huge bumps in the relationship. ***SPOILER*** I’ve been reading some have been having a hard time with his treatment to Chloe after he finds out what she really is. But if the roles were reversed and she had been the one molested and raped by a certain breed I think the reaction would have been acceptable. Regardless that it had been 900 years he had never allowed himself to heal and truly grieve the repercussions. It took finding his mate to start that process **END SPOILER**

The cliffhangers/story arc’s left open at the end of this book are doozies. As always I loved reading another saga in the IAD world and look forward to the next.
