**Warning** This book is intended for a mature reading**
I’ve always been good at wearing masks. Not letting anyone see the real me. I’m content being the happy-go-lucky best friend. The strong willed boss. The independent woman who doesn’t need a man.
But the truth is I’m just as broken as the rest of you. I’m terrified that all it will take is one person to make all my carefully constructed walls crumble into fine dust. So I guard my heart with everything I have. Determined to never let anyone get close enough to hurt me again.
All is perfect until HE walks into my life. No… he doesn’t just walk. He struts his good-looking, sex-oozing self-right into my space and demands that I see HIM. Making me want what I know I can’t have.
So I did the only thing I know how to do.
But he just won’t let me go.
The second I see her, I know she will be mine. I see past the gorgeous smiles and heart-stopping laughter. I see HER. She doesn’t want me to know her secrets or the past that haunts her, but I make it my mission to find out.
To make her mine.
She can run all she wants, but it will never be far enough to stop me from coming after her.
She’s it for me and she knows it.
She’s just too scared to admit it.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is an extremely powerful book in so many ways. An in-depth review would only spoil it for the reader. This is a journey the reader needs to go on alone. Fans of this series will be blown away by this book and if you haven’t read this series yet what are you waiting for??
We’ve known Dee since the first book. Or so we thought. We are taken back and shown that Dee has hidden some pretty traumatic things and the two people closest to her have been oblivious. The only person that has seen through her masquerade is Beck.
As we find out about Dee we also find out more about Beck. We are shown that Beck is a very attentive man and lover and even though Dee constantly is pushing him away he is never far and watching over her. When Dee allows it these two are explosive together. As in furniture is always broken while they are having sex..
The journey of these two working through Dee’s issues and also dealing with some suspense from her job that jeopardizes Dee’s fragile state was an emotional rollercoaster but those are the best reads.
My list of book boyfriends just got longer. Love these over the top alpha males..
Isabelle West met Axel when she was 14. She came from a loving family and he had no family and lived with a crappy foster family. The two fell in love right away and knew they were distend to be together forever. When she was 17 and Axel 18 he joined the Marines and was supposed to come back for her after basics. But as it is stated many times in this book, fate had other plans. Izzies life takes many tragic turns for the next 13 years.
When we meet Izzy its at the end of her marriage to a very abusive man whose final blows leave her both physically and mentally unstable for 2 years after being rescued by two very close friends.
One of those friends works for Corps Security along with other ex-marines. When Izzy gets very upsetting gift from her psycho husband Gage decides it time to bring in Corps Security not knowing that Holt Reid his boss is Izzy’s Axel who she thought was dead all these years and he thought deserted him and married another man.
These two have huge misconceptions about what happened and with seeing Axel again it has set Izzy off on another breakdown and she refuses to talk to him. Even through the mess of pain between them you know that these two never stopped loving each other but are going to have to lance a lot of wounds and get rid of a sick ex-husband to finally get there HEA.
Every one of the guys that work for Corps has a sad history. We don’t get to find out a whole lot about their back stories but enough that you’re hooked and ready for them.
Mamma Mia, Greg Cage can be my super hero anytime. This was such an emotional rollercoaster of emotions. Two grieving souls that find out they have a common bond that ties them together and finally start the healing process but not before fate throws some more heavy duty stuff their way to conquer.
When Greg Cage lost his sister to domestic violence many years ago he took on a crusader persona to always protect women. He found another soul sister in Isabelle but now that she is married to one of his best friends who is as protective of her as he was, he’s feeling at a crossroads in his life. Then he meets Melissa Larson and his own thoughts of settling down with one woman and one day having his own family comes front and center. But Gage is still carrying the heavy burden of guilt over his sister and he has a ex-bed buddy that doesn’t want to let him go.
Melissa Larson knows grief well too. Her sister was also in a domestic violence marriage that ended tragically and left her young nephew an orphan. She is the sole provider of income for herself and her mother who at the moment has custody of him. She puts up a front of being strong and not needing any help and doesn’t have a high opinion of men. When she meets this beast of a man called Cage she’s attracted and only agrees to a one night stand. She had no clue that once a man like Greg Cage gets hooked on you it wasn’t going to be easy to walk away from him.
This story is multifaceted. Not only is there the hot smoking love story between Greg and Melissa, there is plenty of angst that is thrown their way from a variety of sources along with one huge secret Greg is keeping from Melissa.
There was plenty of face time from the rest of the crew from Corps Security and plenty of angst still going on between them. I’m ready to fall in love with the next in line of the Corps men as I have already with Axel and Cage.
