Review: Ruthless People by J.J. McAvoy
“Mr. & Mrs. Smith meets the Sopranos…” To the outside world, they look like American Royalty, giving to charities, feeding the homeless, rebuilding the city. But behind closed doors is a constant battle for dominance between two Bosses, cultures, and hearts. Ruthless People is a romantic crime fiction set in modern day Chicago, and follows the life and marriage of Melody Giovanni and Liam Callahan—rivals by blood and leaders through fear. Their marriage, arranged by their fathers in hopes to end years of bloodshed between the Irish and the Italians. Liam believes he’s getting a simple-minded wife, one he can control, one who bends to his every need . . . the complete opposite of Melody. She knows exactly what type of man he is, and would rather die than give up the power she has spent her life building. The Mafia of the past has evolved, and with rival bosses gunning for them, Melody and Liam will have to learn to work as one to take down those who stand in their way. 1 Marriage x 2 Bosses = 3x the Chaos *Warning: Due to bad language, graphic violence and sex this is for over-18’s only* Theses are not mobsters with a heart of gold….

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Holy crap balls what a book. I was blown away by both the story and the characters in this violent mafia saga of an Irish and Italian family merging to rule to world.
Every so often you read a blurb about a book and just immediately know this book is going to rock. It was months ago I saw this book advertised and was drawn in and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and it did NOT disappoint.
Even though there is tons of violence and all the characters are criminals you still immediately like each character due the way the author wrote them. Along with the violence there is also some of the wittiest lines written that had me laughing uncontrollably. When you first meet Liam and Melody you figure these two are going to kill each other within 5 minutes of their arranged marriage and Melody does do some bodily harm to Liam but these two are soo combustible together they burn up the sheets when they finally give into their lust and baby they give into it a lot.
Every aspect of this book just worked! I highly recommend this book to those looking for a new author that writes unconventional love stories with plenty of plot, suspense and thrills.
