Review: Deathwish by Dana Marton

Officer Gabriella Maria Flores desperately needs a big win to save her career. A case that proves that she has her act together, something non-controversial to make people forget the recent scandal she's been involved in. Instead, the murder she catches couldn't be more high-profile, the number one suspect her boss's brother. Means, motive, opportunity--check. And open-and-shut case, if she's ever seen one. But then, instead of arresting the suspect, why is she falling in love with him?

The sixth book in the Broslin Creek series gives us Hunter Bing’s story. Hunter is Ethan Bing’s brother who was the hero of the 3rd book and has been in all the books in the series. Hunter’s a soldier who after his last tour in Afganistan has decided to not reenlist and goes home to Broslin to propose to his girl friend and hopefully start a family. What he gets instead is accused of his girlfriends murder. With his brother being the Chief Ethan has to turn the investigation over to Officer Gabriella Maria Flores.

Gabi was a police officer in Philadelphia when she got involved in the middle of a scandal. To let the heat die down she takes a temporary job in Broslin all with the intention of going back to Philly. Small town police work is to boring in her mind. She is ecstatic when Captain Bing puts her in charge of the murder investigation. She shows Hunter no favoritism and brings him in right away for questioning and at the moment he is the best unsub they have in the murder.

But as the investigation goes on some sordid secrets of the town and its inhabitant come front and center which start to cast a different light on things. There are actually two “suspense” items going on at the same time that no one knows if they are related. Its not till the end that we find out the shocking truth.
