That Thing Between Eli & Gwen by J.J. McAvoy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This author has a such a funny way of telling stories, whether the humor is dark or lighthearted. That Thing Between Eli & Gwen is what I would categorize as a romantic comedy of frenemies.

Both Eli and Gwen were dumped by their significant others on Eli’s wedding day.. Yes his bride to be ran off with her fiance.

Eli is a very successful Dr whose mother runs the hospital. He is a bit egotistical but deep down the betrayal hurt. The last person he expected or wantied to see moving in next door to his condo was Gwen – the woman who was hurt just as bad as he was but who just rubs him the wrong way her artistic lifestyle.

Gwen is a very kindhearted free spirit who was totally blindsided with her fiance betrayal. The last thing she needed is some angry smart mouth Dr as a neighbor who treats her like she has the plague.

There is plenty of funny bantering between these two before they finally bond over there situation. Reluctantly they decide to be friends instead of enemies. And as time goes on the friends move on to lovers.

I liked the pacing through out the story. Nothing seemed rushed as far as their relationship went. There was one trope thrown in towards the end I didnt think needed to be there but overall I really enjoyed the story.
